Bloemendaal are Champions of Europe!
Dutch club HC Bloemendaal have won the Euro Hockey League thanks to a remarkable 5-4 Final defeat of 2007-08 champions UHC Hamburg. The European showpiece was watched by a sell-out crowd at H.C. Rotterdam who were treated to some truly exceptional hockey by two of the strongest club teams in world hockey. Incredibly, UHC Hamburg fought back from a four-nil deficit, but Bloemendaal held on for victory to claim their first elite tier European title since 2001. It was heartbreak for UHC Hamburg, but HC Bloemendaal were deserved winners of the second Euro Hockey League.

The Final of the 2008-09 Euro Hockey League was always going to be an exciting affair, but no-one could possibly have predicted a nine goal thriller. The capacity crowd were in full voice long before the match got underway, with a huge number of supporters from both Hamburg and Bloemendaal having made the journey to watch their team try to become European Champions. It was the Bloemendaal fans who were cheering most though when they surged into a 4-0 lead after just 20 minutes, making many people believe that the match was effectively finished. Dutch international Ronald Brouwer scored the first two goals from close range, the first coming from a penalty corner with the second arriving courtesy of a sensational reverse stick pass from Jamie Dwyer. The Australian Olympic Gold Medal winner was in inspired form, and soon put his name to the score-sheet with a powerful drive from the left before Teun de Nooijer made the score 4-0 with a tap-in. At this point, most teams would have crumbled, but UHC Hamburg were not quite ready to relinquish the EHL title that they won just 12 months ago. The German side pulled a goal back through veteran forward Phillip Sunkel, giving hope to their supporters in the crowd, but Bloemendaal’s Olmer Meijer made the score 1-5 with a brilliant penalty corner effort. Despite this blow, Hamburg soldiered on and found goals from Marco Miltkau (2) and Patrick Breitenstein to set up a dramatic final 13 minutes. UHC pressed hard for an equaliser, but H.C. Bloemendaal held on to win the Euro Hockey League title – their first win in Europe’s elite competition since 2001.

Earlier in the day, H.C. Rotterdam produced a spectacular display of hockey to thrash Belgium’s KHC Leuven 8-1. The win secured a third place finish in the Euro Hockey League, the second time in two seasons that they have achieved that feat. For the full report, click here!

Inspirational de Nooijer wins MVP award
Bloemendaal captain Teun de Nooijer, who inspired his team to their first Euro Hockey League title, has been named as the winner of the EHL Most Valuable Player Award, Presented by ABN AMRO. De Nooijer was in sparkling form during the EHL Final, being heavily involved in a number of the goals as well as scoring one himself. The three-time WorldHockey Player of the Year had the pleasure of receiving his award from Chris Vogelzang, Board Member of ABN AMRO Bank.

The EHL Most Valuable Player Award Presented by ABN AMRO was judged by an expert panel, consisting of Roelant Oltmans (FIH coach), Wiert Doyer (Chairman, EHF Clubs Committee), Nick Irvine (Eurosport hockey commentator), Richard Stainthorpe (hockey journalist & EHL web Editor), and Carola Meyer (Member of the EHF Executive board). Congratulations to Teun on both his individual award and Bloemendaal’s success in this season’s Euro Hockey League.

Sell-out EHL Final Four ready to begin!
A sell-out crowd will watch this weekend’s stunning climax to the 2008-09 season of the Euro Hockey League, known as EHL Final Four. Such has been the demand for tickets, the EHL took the decision on Thursday to build an extra stand to boost capacity at H.C. Rotterdam, but even these tickets have been snapped up at an unprecedented rate meaning that there will be no tickets available for purchase at the venue entrance. It is an extraordinary situation showing the huge popularity of European hockey’s showpiece tournament. 

36 matches have been played so far in this year’s competition, reducing 24 of Europe’s best club teams down to just four, all of which will compete in this weekend’s Grand Finale. Reigning champions UHC Hamburg have battled their way once again to the Semi Final stage where they will face Belgium minnows KHC Leuven, a team that has surprised everyone by eliminating two former European Champions. The second Semi Final is an all-Dutch affair, with Teun de Nooijer’s HC Bloemendaal taking on host club H.C. Rotterdam. The Semi Finals take place on Saturday, with the Third Place Play-Off and the EHL tournament final taking place on Sunday. It promises to be a weekend of spectacular action featuring some of the world’s best players in arguably the world’s finest club competition.

Evolucion deportiva

Cuando se trata de evolución deportiva se requiere dirección en los ambientes mas altos del deporte. En la FPH lo reconocen y en un esfuerzo en conjunto al Departamento de Alto Rendimiento del COPUR y sus presidentes, el Hon. Hector Motta y el Hon. David Bernier lograron la inclusión del top five del Hockey de Puerto Rico en Argentina. Argentina es la potencia de hockey en toda América y la participación de nuestros atletas en su 1ra división es un logro que aportara grandemente al nivel de nuestro equipo nacional. Los atletas a ser enviados serán Tomas Javier Montañez, Manuel Colon, Pedro Lastra, Kelvin Rivera y Ottus Feliciano. Esto grandes atletas han demostrado consistencia, disciplina y esfuerzo. Este mes de junio llegaran a Argentina por un periodo de cuatro meses, con el fin de entrenar y jugar en clubes de la mencionada republica. Los mismos serán ubicados en dos clubes:

Club Universitario de Rosario
Gimnasia y Esgrima de Rosario

Indica Héctor Motta "El programa es una prueba inicial, el cual esperamos pueda establecerse 
y dar oportunidad a otros jugadores en un futuro cercano, lo que nos llevará a elevar el nivel de nuestro Equipo Nacional de cara a los próximos compromisos internacionales, entre los que se encuentra Mayagüez 2010."

gracias al esfuerzo conjunto de la FPH y su presidente, Héctor Motta Rios, el COPUR y su presidente, el Dr. David Bernier, y el Entrenador Argentino, Rodolfo "Chiche" Mendoza vemos la oportunidad de situarnos en los niveles mas altos en Centro América. De tener éxito como lo esperamos, podríamos volver a ver una delegación de Hockey representando la monoestrallada en un Panamericano.

Caguas Mantiene su invicto.

Hockey sobre cesped:
El pasado domingo 17 de mayo en medio de una luchada victoria el Invicto Caguas HC venció al Creciente Ponce HC. Ponce ha respondido con gran fuerza en este evento. A pesar del alto esfuerzo de Ponce no logro sobre pasar el asedio y competitividad experimentada del Caguas HC. Caguas arremetió con un gol de Christopher Burgos comenzando abrir el marcador. Seguido a esto Alejandro Viera hizo lo propio colocando el marcado2-0 a favor de Caguas. El Partido culmino con un tercer gol de Xavier Torres. Manteniendo de esta manera su invicto el Caguas HC. 

En otro partido el Athletics HC salio de su racha de partidos perdido al vencer a Hato Rey HC. EL Hato Rey HC ha sido uno de los equipos que perfila entre los más fuertes en la competencia. Esto sorprendió a la fanaticada quienes se mostraron eufóricos al ver el éxito de su equipo. El partido culmino con 2 goles de Joseph Agosto y uno de Claudio Figueroa. Culmino 2-1 a favor de Athletics HC.

La noche culmino con el encuentro del Warriors HC y el debutante Santurce HC. Santurce perfila como un equipo atlético y muy activo Bajo la dirección de la familia Maldonado. Este equipo ha surgido y crecido rápidamente. Este partido no fue la excepción, cuando los jóvenes de Santurce prevalecieron ante los Warriors en un partido muy parejo. Gurabo con gran ímpetu lucharon por vencer a Santurce. Los goles anotados fueron Wesley Maldonado-2, Emmanuel Maldonado-2, William Torres para Santurce. Para Warriors 2 de Edwin Babilonia y uno de Edwin Aponte.

Las posiciones se encuentran de la siguiente manera. Caguas a la cabeza con 5 juegos jugados 0 perdidos y 15 puntos. En la segunda posición el Deportivo Nacional con 2 ganados, uno perdido y un empate. Seguido de cerca el Hato Rey HC con dos ganados dos perdidos y un empate. En la cuarta posición se encuentra Santurce con 2 ganados, 2 perdido y 6 puntos. Ponce en la 5ta posición con uno ganado 3 perdido y uno empatado.
Athletics en la 6ta Posición con uno ganado tres perdidos y uno empatado. En la 7ma posición el Warriors HC con tres Perdidos y dos empates.

Hockey en Puerto Rico

El Hockey Sobre Césped tiene sus comienzos como deporte en Puerto Rico alrededor del año 1930, cuando comienza a formar parte del Programa Intramural de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. En los últimos años ha empezado a desarrollarse como un deporte que está ganando terreno en la Juventud de la Isla.

La Federación Puertorriqueña de Hockey Sobre Césped fundada en 1977, está afiliada a la Federación Internacional de Hockey y al comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico. Este deporte se organizó y se desarrolló en nuestra Isla gracias a los dedicados esfuerzos de personas amantes del deporte, tales como el Lic. Germán Rieckehoff Sampayo, Ing. Sixto Pérez, Dr. lan Court, Carlos Gotay, Rafael Rexach y los esposos De Wilde. 

Actualmente, la Federación Puertorriqueña de Hockey Sobre Césped es presidida por el Sr. Hector Motta Rios

El deporte de Hockey sobre Césped ha tenido atletas destacados, jugadores tales como Ramón Rojas y Raúl Morales.

Al dia de hoy la FPH rije el Hockey en Puerto Rico y Cuenta con la colaboracion de 9 Clubes que laboran en la expancion y exposicion del deporte. 

Recientemente, en la Cena Olímpica que celebra anualmente el Comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico en honor los atletas más destacados del año, se premió en reconocimiento por sus triunfos deportivos durante el año 2008, a Daniel Basora y Eleonor Dones Crispín.

reglas en general son las siguientes:

Dos equipos de 11 jugadores, incluyendo un portero, intentan marcar el mayor número de goles en la portería del equipo contrario. El portero puede tocar la bola con cualquier parte de su cuerpo siempre que esté dentro del área de portería. 

El juego 

El partido consta de dos tiempos de 35 minutos cada uno. El equipo en posesión de la bola intenta avanzar hacia la portería contraria mientras el equipo que defiende intenta impedírselo y quitársela. Las substituciones estan permitidas, y los jugadores substituidos pueden volver a incorporarse al partido. 

Los saques 

El saque de centro se realiza al iniciarse cada periodo y para reanudar el partido tras marcar un gol. 

El saque de banda se hace cuando la bola sale por la línea lateral. Saca desde encima de la línea el equipo contrario. 

El saque neutral se realiza cuando hay que reanudar el juego tras una falta de ambos equipos, o por una pausa causada por motivos externos. El árbitro elige el punto de saque, el cual tiene que estar por lo menos a 14,6 metros de la línea de fondo. La bola se coloca en la hierba y un jugador de cada equipo golpea alternativamente tres veces en la hierba y en el stick antes de poner la pelota en juego. Los demás jugadores tienen que estar por lo menos a una distancia de 5 metros. 

Esquina y Penal de Esquina 

La esquina se produce cuando un jugador defensor envía de forma involuntaria la bola por la línea de fondo. Para sacar un jugador ofensivo coloca la bola en un punto a unos 5 metros de la esquina sobre la línea de fondo. 

Cuando el defensor manda la bola de forma voluntaria por la línea de fondo se produce un penal de esquina en el cual un jugador del equipo ofensivo saca la bola desde un punto de la línea a 9 metros del poste más cercano de la portería. Los defensores pueden colocar hasta 5 jugadores bajo la portería, incluyendo al portero, para intentar impedir el remate. Los atacantes se colocan por fuera de la línea del área de portería para recibir la bola del compañero y disparar a gol. 

Tiro de Penal 

Sucede cuando un defensor comete una falta, intencional o no, dentro del área de portería para evitar un gol. Un jugador ofensivo lanza la bola situada a 6,4 metros de la portería, defendida exclusivamente por el portero. 

El gol 

Se consigue cuando la bola cruza totalmente la línea de gol en la portería. Para ser válido el disparo, tiene que realizarse desde dentro del área de portería. También se concede gol directamente si el portero causa un tiro de penal. 

Las tarjetas 

Ante faltas intencionales, juegos peligrosos, o conductas incorrectas, los árbitros (hay dos, generalmente uno en cada mitad del campo) pueden mostrar una tarjeta de diferente color según la gravedad de la infracción: 

. verde: sirve como aviso. 

. amarilla: expulsión durante un minimo de 5 minutos del terreno de juego. 

. roja: expulsión definitiva del partido.

EHLHOCKEY.TV hits new heights!
The Euro Hockey League website has undergone many dramatic changes over the past nine months, and judging by the constantly rising visitor numbers it seems that everyone is enjoying the new developments.

EHLHOCKEY.TV has been hitting new heights in terms of popularity, with the daily news updates, match videos and tournament live streaming features all proving to be big draws to the website. The number of visitors to the site during KO16 Hamburg reached previously unseen levels, with almost 80,000 people logging on over the course of the weekend.

On Tuesday 5th May the total number of unique visitors since the website was re-launched in October stood at over 124,000, with 1.2 million page views. The website is being visited by people from all over the world, with hits being recorded in places far away from Europe including The Philippines, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan and Chile.

In terms of daily visitors, the site is now recording higher than ever statistics outside of tournament time, and it is expected that these will continue to rise as the website evolves. Additional new features - including more interactivity, enhanced club pages and an expanded blog section - will be added in the coming months. Eurosport confirm EHL Final Four coverage
Leading sport channels Eurosport 2 and Eurosport Asia Pacific will be providing full coverage of EHL Final Four, the event that will feature the Semi Finals and the Grand Final of the Euro Hockey League. The match for 3rd / 4th place will also be broadcasted as part of their coverage of the event.

Eurosport 2 is received by over 32 million homes in 46 countries, while the broadcasts on Eurosport Asia Pacific will take the EHL to an even wider audience, hitting countries such as India, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Discussions are currently taking place with various television companies in Europe and around the world. More broadcasting information will be added to the EHL website in the coming weeks. Ireland’s Glenanne join Wanderers in EHL 2009-10
EHL qualifiers Pembroke Wanderers completed a stunning season with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over fellow Dubliners Glenanne in the Final of the Irish Hockey League at the weekend. However, it was not all doom and gloom for Glenanne as their 5-4 Semi Final victory over Banbridge confirmed their first participation in next season’s Euro Hockey League. First EHL blogs go Live!
Members of the EHL Blog Team have been hard at work to get their first efforts online. Netherlands’ based blogger Wouter Bisschop suggests that surprise Euro Hockey League semi-finalists KHC Leuven could win the EHL, while Club Egara’s resident Englishman Andrew Wilson writes about how Egara and RC Polo had to recover from EHL elimination to fight for the Spanish Play-Offs. Advantage to Ducks in Belgium Finals 
Waterloo Ducks proved to be too good for EHL Semi Finalists KHC Leuven in the first of the three match Belgium Hockey League Play Off Finals that took place at the weekend. The Ducks secured a 4-2 victory in front a huge home crowd to move a step closer to winning the title that they desperately crave after falling at the Semi Final stage last season. Los juegos del alba

Los juegos del alba se llebaron acabo en Cuba. Cuba vencio de manera invicta. Desafortunadamente solo Venezuela y Cuba participaron en la competencia de hockey de los Juegos del Alba de este año. Los resultados fueron los siguientes.

Cuba vs. Venezuela 3 - 0
Cuba vs. Venezuela 3 - 1
Cuba vs. Venezuela 2 - 1

En el 2007 participaron 6 paises y culminaron de la siguiente manera.

Intenso 3er Dia

En un partido muy eufórico el Athletics HC se enfrento a un Ponce HC lleno de ganas de vencer. Desde la perla del sur Ponce venia de una racha de 2 juegos perdidos y uno empatado. El Athletics HC equipo fundado por el presidente de la federación no ha logrado vencer ningún partido este añó. Este equipo cuenta este año con la plantilla mas joven de su historia con un Prom. de edad de 13 anos. Este equipo no solo cuenta con una plantilla joven también son de diferentes pueblos como Las Piedras, Carolina y San Juan. A pesar de su racha el mismo a presentado partidos de altura. El partido se mantuvo empate 0-0.

En el segundo parcial Oduardo Díaz marco el gol de ventaja que llevo a Ponce a la victoria.

En otro partido el Hato Rey HC dio cara por su corona al vencer 3 – 0 al Warriors HC de Gurabo. En un partido el cual claramente fue dominado por el veterano. Los goles fueron ejecutados por Claudio Figueroa en un penal y 2 de Eliud Romero en un Penalti Corner.

En el tercer partido del día el campeón de Caguas mantuvo su invicto al vencer 6-1 al debutante CH Deportivo Nacional. Este partido fue uno intenso, llamativo y explosivo. El CHDN logro mantener el partido 0-0 los primero 20 minutos y anotar el primer gol. Esto despertó la ejecución del talento de los campeones y anotaron. 3 goles Xavier Torres, 2 Kenneth Rodríguez y 1 de Alejandro Viera. El gol por el CHDN lo desconto Michael Caro.
En el ultimo partido el Santurce HC fue vencido por el Hato Rey HC 3-2 en un emocionante partido. Lo interesante fue el ver que el partido mantuvo un nivel equitativo a pesar de Santurce ser un novato. Santurce les empato el partido en dos ocasiones pero faltando minutos para el final del partido Hato Rey marco la delantera venciendo por segunda vez en el día.
