EHL FINAL FOUR: Euro Hockey League returns to RotterdamEuro Hockey League is delighted to announce that Holland’s H.C. Rotterdam will again be the host club for the Finals of the 2008/2009 season. The final phase of the competition features the four remaining teams: UHC Hamburg, KHC Leuven, HC Bloemendaal and H.C. Rotterdam. The competition, known as “EHL Final Four”, will be played over the Whitsun weekend – Saturday 30th May and Sunday 31th May. Founded in 1925, H.C. Rotterdam is the biggest hockey club in the Netherlands with currently over 2.450 members and an impressive venue that includes three water-based as well as four sand-filled full-size hockey fields. The club moved to its current home base in the summer of 2001. H.C. Sunday 31st May12.00hrs Match for 3rd and 4th place14.30hrs Euro Hockey League 2008/2009 Final Note: Fixtures may change depending on TV requirementsEHF Release latest Euro Hockey League Ranking TableFollowing the completion of EHL Rounds 2 and 3 (KO16) in Hamburg, and the EuroHockey Club Trophy tournament (M) in Dublin last weekend, the European Hockey Federation (EHF) has released the all-important Euro Hockey League Ranking Table. The table determines by order of ranking the number of teams from each country that will participate in the next season’s Euro Hockey League. The big news to come from this is that Ireland has moved up the table from tenth to seventh place, which means that they will have two representatives in next season’s Euro Hockey League competition. This is partly due to the incredible efforts of Three Rock Rovers, who reached the last 16 of this season’s competition. To see the story in full, click here.
KO16 Hamburg – facts & figuresDid you know that a total of 21 penalty corners were scored in the twelve matches played at the event? Or that HC Bloemendaal was the only team that did not feel the need to refer to the video umpire in their victories over Cannock HC and East Grinstead? UHC Hamburg triumph in “Das Duell”Following their stunning successes at KO16, reining Euro Hockey League champions UHC Hamburg continued their fine form with a brilliant 4-1 victory over rivals Der Club an der Alster in the German Hockey Liga. The meeting of the two sides - known as "Das Duell" - took place at UHC Hamburg, and also featured a clash between the women of UHC and Alster, with Alster taking a 2-1 win to ensure that the UHC Hamburg would not have all of the glory. UHC’s victory in the men’s game lifted them above their opponents into second place in the league, seven points adrift of leaders Rot-Weiss Köln. To read more, click here.
EHL Top Goal Scorers list updatedClub Egara's Guillermo Schickendantz is still at the top of the Goal Scorers list thanks to five goals in two games at KO16 Hamburg. The prolific striker has now scored 11 times in just four Euro Hockey League matches this season, and is unlikely to be overtaken despite his side's elimination from the tournament at the hands of UHC Hamburg.
